The Macross Saga:The SDF-1: While not a character as such, much of the plot in The Macross Saga revolves around the SDF-1. Zor, the first and most powerful Robotech Master, hid his protoculture factory deep within the bowels of the SDF-1, then sent it to Earth in an effort to keep his people from finding it. Rick Hunter: The primary character of the Macross Saga. Rick Hunter comes into the story as a good friend of Commander Roy Fokker. Ending up stranded in outer space with the rest of the citizens of Macross Island. Rick decides to join the Robotech Defense Force. He eventually takes the place of Commander Fokker as leader of the Skull Squadron of Veritech Fighters. When he’s not flying combat missions, Rick spends most of his time trying to sort out his conflicting feelings for the beautiful Lynn Minmei, and Commander Lisa Hayes. Lynn Minmei: Lynn Minmei plays an important role in the Macross Saga. She starts out as the primary love-interest of Rick Hunter. As the story progresses, she becomes a famous pop star aboard the SDF-1. Lisa Hayes: The First Officer aboard the SDF-1, Commander Lisa Hayes grew up in a military environment. She provides a secondary love interest for Rick Hunter, and completes the Love Triangle that keeps the show so interesting. Roy Fokker: Leader of the Skull Squadron of Veritech Fighters, Roy Fokker performed at the air show of Rick’s father before the global civil war. Roy and Rick became like brothers during this time, and because of this, their bond as friends is very strong. Claudia Grant: Confidante of Lisa Hayes and Love interest of Commander Fokker, Claudia Grant plays a key role in the Macross Saga. Captain Henry Gloval: The Captain of the SDF-1, Henry Gloval was a highly decorated officer from the Global Civil War. He has the arduous task of protecting the citizens of Macross City, and defending the Earth from the Zentraedi forces. Max Sterling: Assigned to Rick Hunter’s Vermilion squadron as a raw recruit, Max is a natural Veritech Fighter Pilot. Through intense combat, he quickly gains experience and becomes an effective leader himself. After seeing Miriya, he becomes infatuated with her and pursues her affection. His infatuation soon turns to love, and they are married. Their child, Dana, becomes the primary player during the second Robotech War. Ben Dixon: Also assigned to Rick Hunter’s Vermilion squadron as a raw recruit, Ben is a gung-ho Veritech Fighter Pilot. Unfortunately, Ben’s part in this story is cut short when he can’t escape the Shockwave resulting from an overload of the SDF-1’s Barrier System. Lynn Kyle: Cousin of Lynn Minmei, Kyle is a peace activist, and resents anything associated with the Military. He is the only major competition to Rick Hunter for the affection of Lynn Minmei. Kim, Sammy, and Vanessa: This trio of ladies man communication and operation positions aboard the Bridge of the SDF-1. They play important supporting roles, and provide comic relief. Breetai: Primary Commander of the Zentraedi Forces sent to retrieve the SDF-1, Breetai seems bigger and stronger than most of the Zentraedi. Breetai is temporarily relieved of his command, but is later reinstated. He plays an integral role in the story of Robotech. Exedore: Chief advisor to Commander Breetai, Exedore seems to have a keen insight into the history and practices of the Zentraedi, as well other matters. Khyron: Called in to perform a special operation on Mars, Khyron maintains his warlike nature through the end of the Macross Saga. He serves first under Breetai, then Azonia. After the destruction of the Imperial Fleet, he takes command of the Zentraedi forces that still want to fight. Azonia: Called in to replace Breetai by Supreme Commander Dolza. Azonia takes a more cautious approach to capturing the SDF-1. When she also fails to capture the Battle Fortress, she is relieved, and placed under Breetai’s command. Miriya: Second in command under Commander Azonia, Miriya is one of the Greatest Zentraedi Pilots. Obsessed with being the greatest, she seeks out the Micronian Ace Pilot, but ends up falling in love with him. Dolza: Supreme Commander of the Zentraedi forces. Dolza presents an even more formidable presence than Commander Breetai does. Bron, Rico, and Konda: Initially sent to the SDF-1 as spies, these three Zentraedi became infatuated with Micronian society. The Robotech Masters:The Ruins of the SDF-1: Having been completely destroyed by Khyron’s Battleship, The SDF-1 is buried and quarantined due to potential radioactive fallout. The three mounds are the remains of the SDF-1, SDF-2, and Khyron’s Battleship. Most of the tensions between the Robotech Masters and the Armies of the Southern Cross arise from Zor’s Protoculture Factory, which was buried along with the SDF-1. The Robotech Masters: The creators of the Zentraedi, the Robotech Masters are now attempting to do what their servants could not. That is to recapture Zor’s Protoculture Factory, and replenish their dwindling supply of the energy source. The Armies of the Southern Cross: After the departure of the Robotech Expeditionary Force, the Armies of the Southern Cross remained to defend the planet Earth from any further threat of invasion. Dana Sterling: Daughter of Max and Miriya Sterling, Lieutenant Dana Sterling is a recent graduate of the Robotech Academy. She is given command of the 15th Tactical Squadron of Veritech Hovertanks after Lieutenant Sean Philips is demoted to Private. Dana is the primary character in the Masters Saga of Robotech. Sean Philips: Former Commander of the 15th, Private Sean Philips was demoted for his “extracurricular” activities. Being the lowest ranking member of the 15th Squad is hard for someone with Sean’s ego, but he learns to deal with taking orders from Dana Sterling. Bowie Grant: A childhood friend of Dana Sterling, Private Bowie Grant is an important character in the Robotech Masters Saga. He is often in personal conflict over his duties as a soldier. His softer sappy side shows through often, especially when he’s playing the piano. His relationship with Musica, is a key factor in the infiltration of the Robotech Master’s society. Angelo Dante: It is often confusing as to whether Angelo is a Sergeant or a Corporal. Regardless of this, Dante is the highest-ranking enlisted member of the 15th Squad. He is constantly questioning Lieutenant Sterling’s orders, and even refers to her as a “ditzy teenager”. He eventually comes to respect her command abilities, and her tactical genius. Louie Nichols: Technical expert of the 15th Squad, Corporal Nichols is responsible for several innovations in combat technology. Louie also has issues with war. He seems to feel responsible for any death that may occur due to one of his inventions. Zor Prime: A clone of the original Zor, Zor Prime was created by the Robotech Masters in order to unlock the secrets of Protoculture. Having failed to unlock his memories, the Robotech Masters decided to use Zor Prime as an enemy agent. He has deep inner conflicts due to his sporadic memories from the original Zor. For some reason, Dana seems strangely drawn to Zor Prime. Nova Satori: A Lieutenant with the Global Military Police (GMP), Nova is always on the lookout for Military Indiscretion. She seems to revel in the enforcement of Military Protocol. It seems, however, that she begins to lighten up as the saga progresses. Marie Crystal: Commander of a rival unit, Lieutenant Marie Crystal is a “friendly” adversary of Dana Sterling. Musica: Together with her “sisters” Allegra and Octavia, Musica plays the Cosmic Harp for the Robotech Masters. She is confused by Bowie’s romantic feelings towards her, as well as her own. General Rolf Emerson: A key leader in the Second Robotech War, General Emerson was also the guardian of Bowie Grant. Supreme Commander Anatole Leonard: The Leader of the Armies of the Southern Cross, Supreme Commander Leonard is often seen as a villain in the Robotech Masters Saga. The Invid Flower of Life: The basis of Robotechnology, the Flower of Life is what is used to create Protoculture. During this saga, the Robotech Masters are continually concerned that if the flower comes to seed, it will draw the Invid swarms.
The New Generation:Scott Bernard: A survivor from the ill-fated Mars Division of the Robotech Expeditionary Forces. Scott has spent most of his life in outer space and is like a fish out of water here on Earth. Scott is completely focused on his mission to free the Earth from Invid. Rand: A self proclaimed country boy, Rand is at first reluctant to join Scott on his mission but becomes one of his most useful allies. Rook Bartley: A tough young lady with street smarts and a dark past, Rook is as able in battle as any of the guys, and an essential part of the Scott's team. Lancer: A soldier who was forced to take on a disguise as singing sensation Yellow Dancer in order to save himself from destruction by the Invid. He is eager to join Scott's band of freedom fighters. Annie LaBelle: Affectionately nicknamed Mint. Sort of a tag-a-long, Annie is always searching for her next fiance. Lunk: A soldier from the armies of the Southern Cross, Lunk thought he left battle behind him. But when his friend is kidnapped by some local thugs, he decides to help Scott with the rescue and ends up becoming the team mechanic. Marlene (original): Scott's fiancé, Marlene died in the initial assault on Earth by the Mars Division. Marlene/Ariel: An Invid simulagent, Ariel was given human form by the Invid regis in order to infiltrate the freedom fighters. Amnesia keeps her from fulfilling her mission as a spy, and instead she becomes emotionally attached to the group. Corg and Sera: Like the simulagent Ariel, Corg and Sera have been transmuted into human form in order to help the Invid survive on the planet Earth. Their developing emotions cause trouble for the Invid Regis. The Invid Regis: The Queen of the Invid, the Regis is the supreme leader of her people. Protoculture: The mysterious fuel that ties the three generations of Robotech together. It is harvested from the flower of life, and is the reason that the Invid have invaded. Protoculture is conspicuous in the new generation, as it comes in cells, and is constantly needed to fuel the machinery. Admiral Hunter: Rick Hunter all grown up, The Admiral is referenced throughout the new generation. Mars Division: The reconnaissance forces sent by Admiral Hunter to combat the Invid and free the planet Earth. The SDF-3: Admiral Hunter's ship, the SDF-3 is strangely absent during the final battle.
