ROBOTECH II: The SentinelsThe Sentinels was to have been the follow-up series to ROBOTECH. It would have tied the three generations of ROBOTECH together in a far more cohesive manner. Unfortunately, due to several financial problems, the project had to be halted. The animation from the first few episodes was put together to produce a feature length video. This of course is the Sentinels Movie that we all know and love today.
Reflection and Review of The Sentinels Feature:While this feature length special does have a few shining moments, it is mostly a nonstop flashback/action fest. The flashbacks may have been interesting to someone who has not seen the series in quite a while, but for someone like me, who has been almost over-exposed, it becomes a bit redundant. As for the action sequences, they seem somehow overdone. Several minutes of the Invid invading Tirol with virtually no dialog, seem to drag on and on. The marriage of Rick Hunter and Lisa Hayes is certainly the high point of this video. There are other times that are enjoyable, but none of them are remarkable. All in all, this series showed a good deal of potential. Unfortunately, based on this presentation, it appears it may have turned out to be an unpleasant experience.
