That’s right, I said cartoon, not anime, not sophisticated animation. This is a cartoon. It is also much more, but it is still a cartoon. That is one reason why it was such a breakthrough television show. As sophisticated as it was, it was still geared at kids. And it opened up a whole New World to those kids who watched it.
Most Memorable Line:
Although we got a glimpse at Minmei during the first episode, this is where we are really introduced to her character. Not only do we get to see her “motherly instincts” as she watches out for her little cousin Jason, but we also get an idea of just how flighty she can be. Going back for her diary during the middle of an invasion because “somebody might find it and read it”. Come on. Also, there is a great scene in this episode where Rick brings Minmei into the cockpit of his Veritech Fighter mid-flight. This is one of the best moments in the series, both in respect to drama and great animation.
Most Memorable Line:
This is the episode where it all goes wrong. The unintentional space fold to Pluto’s orbit drastically changed the scope of the series. Who knows how differently things might have turned out had they remained on Earth, with all it’s available resources. Not to mention the inconvenience they had to endure carrying around all those civilians.
Most Memorable Line:
The events in this episode set up the love story that is one of the most gripping things about the Macross Saga of Robotech. This is where Rick Hunter first falls in love with Minmei. They grow close in their seclusion, and things will never be the same.
Most Memorable Line:
All of the drama of a war against unknown aliens must be put aside for the opening of the first Chinese Restaurant in outer space.
Most Memorable Line:
Rick Hunter finally gets past all of his personal issues concerning the military, and enlists. Of course it doesn’t take long before he embarrasses himself in front of Commander Lisa Hayes.
Most Memorable Line:
Whoa, a lot of action going on in this episode. Not only do we get to meet Khyron the Backstabber, but quite a bit of Lisa’s back-story is also revealed.
Most Memorable Line:
Here we are at Minmei’s sixteenth birthday. Rick is getting medals, being promoted, and given subordinates. All this and he can’t remember to get Minmei a birthday present.
Most Memorable Line:
The first beauty pageant in space, and it’s making Rick a little crazy. First he gives permission for his men to have the night off so they can go. Then he’s surprised at the news.
Most Memorable Line:
Setting the stage for their capture by the Zentraedi, Rick Hunter’s squadron is assigned to protect the reconnaissance mission of Commander Lisa Hayes.
Most Memorable Line:
Captured by aliens, Rick Hunter, Ben Dixon, and Lisa Hayes must bide their time while they search for a means to escape. During the course of events, Lisa orders Rick to kiss her. Where can I get a Commander like that? They eventually form an excellent plan to escape; too bad Max rescues them before they have a chance to implement it. Well, effectively implement it anyway.
Most Memorable Line:
This is the first episode of Robotech that I had ever seen. It was kind of strange coming into the story without knowing exactly what was going on. But the giant aliens, a giant robot dressed like a giant alien, a daring escape plan, an exciting chase. The plot was enthralling. I couldn’t tear myself away from it. This remains one of my favorite episodes in the entire series. This episode also stirs up one of the greatest debates in the Robotech universe. Lisa makes a comment about the Zentraedi only knowing how to use their technology, and not maintain it. This, along with information from the Robotech Novels, has split much of the Robotech Fandom into two camps. One that takes this comment as fact, and another that sees too much evidence to the contrary. Can the Zentraedi repair their technology? The world may never know.
Most Memorable Line:
Rick Hunter and Company return home to the SDF-1 only to be disbelieved by their superior officers, and given a hero’s welcome by the now famous Lynn Minmei. Meanwhile, the three Zentraedi spies have their work cut out for them finding disguises and blending in with human society. When choosing disguises, Bron chooses a skirt and blouse combination, not understanding that it is traditional female attire. This is the first example of cross-dressing in the Robotech series. While it only exists as comic relief, it is obvious evidence of Robotech’s non-US origins.
Most Memorable Line:
This is basically a recap episode, and may seem redundant for those who are familiar with the story. It is important however, in any serialized story such as Robotech, to bring those who may have missed out on earlier episodes up to speed.
Most Memorable Line:
Ah, the introduction of the famous Lynn Kyle, the man you love to hate. Minmei visits her home in Yokohama, and brings her cousin back to live on the SDF-1. Meanwhile, Captain Gloval and Lisa Hayes are meeting with the Earth Council at their headquarters in Alaska. We learn quite a bit about Lisa’s Father, and the Grand Cannon in this episode.
Most Memorable Line:
Lisa gets her first glimpse of Kyle, and is reminded of her dearly departed boyfriend Karl Riber. Unfortunately, an announcement regarding the relocation of the civilian population leads to the most famous restaurant brawl in all of Robotech. Kyle ends up cleaning up with everyone who comes at him. This man who thinks that fighting doesn’t accomplish anything, turns out to be an incredible fighter. Khyron and Azonia continue to quarrel, while Miriya seems to be somewhat delinquent herself. On a lighter note, Rick’s Veritech fighter is shot down. And guess who does the shooting, none other than Commander Lisa Hayes.
Most Memorable Line:
The Lion’s Share of this episode takes place in Rick Hunter’s delirious unconscious mind. While some may think that this is another redundant episode, I believe it holds key insights into the psyche of Rick Hunter. For instance, the Zentraedi kidnapping of Lynn Minmei leading to his joining the defense force. It is almost directly related to his real life decision to join. Then of course there is the instance of Breetai changing into Lynn Kyle. It seems to represent how Kyle has become a greater threat to their happiness than the war with the Zentraedi. All in all, this is one of my favorite episodes.
Most Memorable Line:
Episode 18: Farewell, Big Brother A turning point in the Macross Saga, Rick Hunter’s world is changed forever. With the death of Commander Roy Fokker, Rick loses his friend, childhood hero, and mentor. This episode also plays host to the first battle between Max and Miriya. Love at first weapons fire.
Most Memorable Line:
With Roy Fokker gone, Rick Hunter is given command of the Skull Squadron of Veritech Fighters. Captain Gloval’s plan to evacuate the civilian population is ingenious. Unfortunately, a barrier system overload destroys any chance to resettle the citizens of Macross City.
Most Memorable Line:
Breetai is reinstated as mission commander, and the three Zentraedi spies return to give their reports. On the RDF side, Captain Gloval must inform the passengers that they must leave the planet Earth. This episode is the only time we see Kyle show any kind of support for the Military.
Most Memorable Line:
Lisa and Rick bond as they both run from the premiere of Minmei’s film, Small White Dragon. Their troubles further escalate as they are trapped together during a modular transformation. Also in this episode, Max gets his first glimpse of the Micronized Miriya, and the three spies begin to share their adventures on the SDF-1 with their Zentraedi comrades.
Most Memorable Line:
Bron, Rico, and Konda conspire along with their Zentraedi comrades to be micronized and defect to the SDF-1. Khyron hears of the growing dissent aboard Breetai’s Cruiser, and he is not happy.
Most Memorable Line:
As the invading Zentraedi pillage and destroy Macross City, Rick finds Kyle kissing Minmei. Of course, he just misses Minmei push Kyle away. This is one of those situations where if he would have stuck around just a bit longer, things might have gone differently. Meanwhile, the Zentraedi Spies are asking for asylum aboard the SDF-1. Lisa then decides she must return to Earth in order to convince the Council of the importance of peaceful coexistence. This episode plays host to one of the most of the most touching scenes between Rick and Lisa in the first 24 episodes. They share a cup of tea and sympathy in the post-destruction Macross City.
Most Memorable Line:
Lisa leaves the SDF-1. But Rick, being the pest that he can be, finds one last chance to say goodbye. Rick’s coded message to Lisa is almost too much sap for me to handle. Almost, but not quite. After meeting with her father, she is disappointed to hear that the council is planning on firing the Grand Cannon, as a display of power, before entering into any peace negotiations. Meanwhile, Max and Miriya get to meet once again in combat. This time it’s on a Holographic Video Game Machine. Once again, Miriya gets her defeat handed to her on a platter. Then, the surprise everyone has been waiting for. Kyle kind of halfway proposes to Minmei in the middle of a press conference.
Most Memorable Line:
Max and Miriya have their first date, become engaged, and get married. All this in the same episode. Dolza’s order to destroy the SDF-1 is a bit too late as the Zentraedi aboard Breetai’s ship refuse to go into battle.
Most Memorable Line:
Exedore is sent as an emissary to the SDF-1. This episode plays host to some of the best comedy in the series. Exedore confuses fantasy for reality, human culture for military secrets, and does a surprisingly accurate impression of Lynn Minmei. But before long, news arrives that the main Zentraedi fleet is on its way, and unlikely alliances are formed.
Most Memorable Line:
This is it boys. Almost total destruction of the planet Earth. You knew it had to happen sometime. Go to war with planet destroying aliens, only so long before your planet gets destroyed. This is also the episode that Rick gets both the girls. He professes his love for Minmei, and she even returns it. Then he saves Lisa from the devastated Alaska base. Gloval and Breetai join up to battle against Dolza’s fleet. They even utilize Minmei’s song as a secret weapon. We hear Minmei sing “We Will Win” for the first time. It is the most monumental song in Robotech, and it is only right that Lancer reprises it in the New Generation. It is an anthem for the survival of the Human Race against all forms of alien invasion.
Most Memorable Line:
Episode 28: Reconstruction Blues Rick reflects in a field of dandelions. It’s a touching scene. Who’d have thought a field of wild flowers could be so moving. Lisa becomes jealous after she finds a photo album with pictures of Minmei in Rick’s Room. Minmei deals with a drunken Kyle, and Rick with some Rebel Zentraedi.
Most Memorable Line:
The Robotech Masters make plans to travel to Earth after discovering a massive protoculture mass discharge. Back on Earth, the Zentraedi are leaving cities by the thousands. This is just the thing that Khyron and Azonia have been waiting for. Also in this episode, Minmei reminisces over her past with Rick. This part of the series seems to have a lot of back-story injected into it.
Most Memorable Line:
Here we are. Not even to the Southern Cross episodes and Dana gets her first starring role. The credit is given to Miriya (hence the episode’s name), but it’s baby Dana that steals the show. Rick is once again ordered to kiss Lisa. Some guys get all the breaks. At the end of the day, they conquer the Zentraedi forces, capture the Robotech Factory, and return home unscathed.
Most Memorable Line:
The future of the Protoculture Chamber is at stake in New Detroit City. Lynn Kyle can’t wait to make another power play against the Military, while Khyron plans an attack.
Most Memorable Line:
Khyron shows the least amount of decorum possible, by kidnapping Lynn Minmei and Kyle. Rick feels compelled to rescue Minmei and Lisa once again feels spurned.
Most Memorable Line:
In the midst of troubles between Rick and Lisa, we get a history lesson about Roy Fokker. Claudia shares some personal stories with Lisa about the dashing young pilot. Meanwhile, Rick realizes that Lisa has feelings for him, and searches the city for her. They find each other and share a cup of tea.
Most Memorable Line:
Rick and Lisa have planned a picnic lunch, but Minmei calls and Rick goes running off to Monument City. Poor Lisa, being stood up doesn’t even seem to phase her. After seeing Minmei, Rick is involved in a brief battle at a military air base. He finally arrives to see Lisa, and feeds her some story about “urgent personal business”. As they are walking, Rick wraps the new scarf that he received from Minmei around Lisa’s neck. Unfortunately she smells Minmei’s Perfume on the scarf and storms off. This episode also features the breakup of the Lynn Minmei/Lynn Kyle collaboration. Minmei feels she can no longer sing, and Kyle leaves to go on a long trip, never to be seen again. This is an episode that still pulls at my heartstrings. Even after all these years, and even though I know what’s going to happen, I still find myself drawn into the story. “Come on Rick, get back to see Lisa. No! Don’t wrap that scarf around her, she’ll know you were with Minmei.”
Most Memorable Line:
Episode 35: Season’s Greetings It’s the holiday season, and Santa Clause is coming round… Well, it’s Christmas time in Macross City. Minmei finds herself at Rick’s Door, and Rick welcomes her in. There is talk of retirement, both from singing and flying. Meanwhile, Khyron retrieves the Protoculture Matrix from Macross City, but not before leaving them a little Christmas “greeting”.
Most Memorable Line:
Here we are, at the end of the Macross Saga. Minmei proposes to Rick, and Lisa confesses her love for him. Rick’s in a tight spot, but he eventually makes a decision. Admiral Gloval gives command of the SDF-2 to Captain Hayes. Her new assignment is to go into deep space and find the Robotech Masters. Unfortunately, Khyron disables the new ship and is fixated on destroying the SDF-1. This is Humanity’s last stand against the invading Zentraedi. The SDF-1 and the Entire Bridge crew are destroyed. Fortunately, Rick and Lisa survive to build the SDF-3 and go “To the Stars” and beyond.
Most Memorable Line:
The Robotech Masters:Little more than a recap, this episode is also a tie in to the Macross Saga. Aptly named, the majority of this episode is a story told by Dana to Bowie of her parents meeting.
Most Memorable Line:
Dana’s first day in command of the 15th Tactical Corps doesn’t go too well as a training drill goes awry. An MP robot is damaged, and Dana takes the fall.
Most Memorable Line:
The first major offense of the Armies of the Southern Cross doesn’t go exactly as planned. With the air base under threat of destruction, our incomparable heroine decides to abandon her post and join in the fight. This is the start of a long trend of the 15th Squadron saving the day, and Dana being rewarded for her fortuitous insubordination. There are also lots of cool Hovertank sequences.
Most Memorable Line:
Dana volunteers to go on a dangerous space mission. She doesn’t handle the stress very well, and freezes up during a critical moment. Her biggest problem seems to be the destruction of the second ship. She eventually pulls through, but does not leave a good impression.
Most Memorable Line:
Dana and Bowie find Zor Prime poking around the remains of the SDF-1. Bowie is captured and Dana escapes. Then Dana, being the good friend she is, mounts a rescue mission against orders.
Most Memorable Line:
The 15th ATAC manages to bring down the Robotech Master’s Flagship. Another hair brained plan pans out, and Dana’s squad once again gets the credit. There is also a rather incongruous moment at the end of this episode where Dana is buying a dress. Marie and Nova are both on hand to pout about how it should have been their dress. My only thought is that this was put in to help sell Southern Cross related fashion dolls.
Most Memorable Line:
Poor Bowie loves to play the piano and start barroom brawls. Nova Satori puts Dana in charge of his behavior. Not the brightest thing she could have done, but sometimes, even the GMPs make bad decisions. Bowie ends up getting in trouble again, and is sent to the brig. All’s well that ends well however, and Bowie gets to go on the mission after all.
Most Memorable Line:
The 15th Squad is deep inside the enemy ship. After splitting up, some get no action while others get too much. This episode also marks the first meeting of Bowie and Musica. There is also a scene in this episode that was blatantly ripped-off from the Star Wars Film.
Most Memorable Line:
After examining a captured Bioroid, Dana comes to the conclusion that the pilots are living beings, and not androids. Dana seems to jump on everyone else’s bandwagon and starts to have fits about not killing the aliens. After she throws a fit in the war-room, battle ensues and drama occurs. Also in this episode, the Robotech Masters decide to capture some humans after they decide they can no longer be ignored.
Most Memorable Line:
Having been brushed off by the Military Command, Dana decides to spend a night out on the town with Bowie. She meets the “suave” George Sullivan and is swept away. She is heartbroken to find out that George is an agent of the Global Military Police. George winds up helping out Dana, but becomes a casualty of the latest battle.
Most Memorable Line:
Sean tries to woo Marie, but is stopped cold by an insistent nurse. There is a ship from the pioneer mission returning during this episode. Unfortunately, they can offer no real support. This episode also marks the capture of Zor Prime.
Most Memorable Line:
Dana finds out about the captured Bioroid Pilot and becomes single-mindedly obsessed with seeing him. Together with her men, she sneaks into his room and conducts her own interrogation. Great comedy ensues. It’s still kind of hard to tell exactly what is motivating Sean to pine away after Marie. It is clear however, that their relationship is evolving.
Most Memorable Line:
Zor is assigned to the 15th Squad with the hope that his memory will return. Dana is put in charge of his debriefing, as unqualified as she may seem. There is, understandably, a lot of tension between Zor and the other members of his Squadron. This dark, brooding picture we get of Zor, is one that follows him through the rest of the saga.
Most Memorable Line:
Zor begins to remember bits and pieces, including the Triumvirate. Dana decides to show Zor the ruins of the SDF-1 in hopes that it may spark some more of his memory. It seems to work, as they find strange flowers growing in threes at the site of the ruins. Meanwhile, an attack wave made up of the new AJAC Veritech Choppers meets defeat.
Most Memorable Line:
Zor leaves Dana hanging in order to go out with Nova. To his credit, he was under alien mind control and trying to get some information from her. Unfortunately, he does get some useful information, which leads to a botched rescue mission.
Most Memorable Line:
General Emerson is assigned to a hopeless offensive and it seems as if Leonard simply wants to get him out of the way. It is also time for Dana to play matchmaker between Captain Komodo and Nova Satori. It could just be to keep Nova away from Zor, but I like to think that Dana’s motives are only that of seeing two friends happily in love. My theory works out okay, until you see how she looks at Sean and Marie.
Most Memorable Line:
Louie invents the Pupil Pistol after the frustration of losing a combat game to Dana. He is not happy after the Southern Cross Armies incorporate the new system into their Robotechnology. Both Louie and Dana are intent on not using the new weapon in actual combat. It is ironic that Zor becomes the voice of reason and convinces Dana that the new weapon must be used to fight against the Robotech Masters.
Most Memorable Line:
Dana and the rest of the Fifteenth travel into space. The Robotech Masters tests out their new Invid Fighters. Nova expresses some interest in Lieutenant Brown. But the height of drama in this episode, is the reactivation of Zor Prime. The Masters finally decide that his usefulness as a spy is over, and they recall him into their service.
Most Memorable Line:
Episode 55: Dana in Wonderland Trapped in an alien environment, Dana and Company must use their wits to try to blend in and not be noticed. Bowie once again meets up with Musica as the Squad systematically becomes captured.
Most Memorable Line:
Zor Prime becomes unstable and is slated for reprogramming. Fortunately, Dana and Company manage to rescue him in the nick of time. They proceed to find their way off of the ship, and home to General Emerson’s fleet.
Most Memorable Line:
While Dana and Company try to hide Musica from the Global Military Police, Lieutenant Satori is hot on her trail. Meanwhile, the Robotech Masters continue to feel the effects of their inadequate supply of protoculture.
Most Memorable Line:
With Bowie and Musica on the run, all parties seem drawn to the ruins of the SDF-1. Once Musica realizes that the flowers have gone to seed, she becomes terrified that the spores will draw the Invid to Earth. Space-side, the Robotech Masters launch an all-out offensive against the Armies of the Southern Cross. Supreme Commander Leonard orders General Emerson to keep them at bay, whatever the cost.
Most Memorable Line:
Episode 59: The Invid Connection The members of the 15th Squadron finally convince Nova that Musica poses no threat, and should not be taken into custody. Supreme Commander Leonard receives an ultimatum from the Robotech Masters, abandon Earth or be destroyed. General Emerson faces certain defeat and is captured by the Robotech Masters. A prisoner exchange is negotiated between the Robotech Masters and Zor. Unfortunately, General Emerson doesn’t survive the engagement.
Most Memorable Line:
The final episode of the Masters Saga, nearly all forces are working together. The two loose cannons are Supreme Commander Leonard and Zor Prime. Dana gets some funky flowers and receives a telepathic image from her little sister. Zor Prime gives Dana a goodbye kiss, and then goes postal on the Robotech Masters. He has hopes of destroying the Robotech Masters and the Flower of Life. Unfortunately, his sacrifice is mostly in vain as the seeds of the flower are distributed throughout Earth’s atmosphere.
Most Memorable Line:
The New Generation:Episode 61: The Invid Invasion Scott and Marlene, a proposal, and freeing the ancestral home world. It's all so dramatic. And hey, how did that guy get a New York accent in space? Anyhow, there's a lot of information to process right here at the beginning, but the action starts before you know it and good old Scott is bailing out of his Alpha Fighter. Enter Rand, the coolest character in all of Robotech, well, in my opinion anyway. But even he's not cool enough to fight off three Invid scouts. Good thing Scott is there to help him out.
Most Memorable Line:
Poor Annie. Her loser boyfriend Ken is tossing her to the curb. All that changes though when Scott and Rand show up. Something sounds fishy, and it ain't the fish. Maybe it's the Invid waiting in the water? Waiting for Annie to get mad and clear out the Invid might be a good option, but it's a good thing that red cyclone showed up to save the day.
Most Memorable Line:
Runner-Up Line:
Episode 63: Lonely Soldier Boy Yellow Dancer is performing at a local dive, but the real lady is the one in red. Since the local thugs are getting out of line, Scott puts together a rescue team to save Lunk's friend. The group here is almost the regular team. Add an Alpha Fighter, and an unmasked Lancer, and you have a band of freedom fighters unlike the world has ever seen.
Most Memorable Line:
In this classic chase story, we learn that the Invid can “smell” protoculture. Boy that's really inconvenient. While Annie's hanging from a tree, Rand figures out the connection; just in time to avoid another attack. After the Invid spoil Rand's fishing expedition, we can see clearly that Scott does know how to swim (see episode 76). Fortunately, a Grizzly Bear and a spider save the day by causing Scott to fire a stray shot that calls Lancer to help save the day. This episode really shows how the unit is starting to bond.
Most Memorable Line:
A Yellow Dancer concert is serving as a diversion for a major Protoculture heist. It's a good thing Lunk looks so much like a delivery driver; and Rook must have been an acrobat before she became a freedom fighter. By the way, that balloon idea was okay, but that police vehicle scheme was genius.
Most Memorable Line:
Here we get to explore Rook's troubled past. Blue Angels, Red Snakes, Rumbles, Rook and Romy. Lots of exposition to get through here. It's cool how Rand always has Rook's back. The chicken race might have been mighty dramatic, but that Red Snake leader was a punk chicken before it even started. Why on Earth did Rand tell Rook's mom to get a job?
Most Memorable Line:
This episode recalls some of Lunk's past as a soldier. He has a book to deliver to a man in a town that seems to have a secret. They sure go through a lot of trouble in this one, but at least they get a cool gun out of it.
Most Memorable Line:
The Freedom Fighters find a town where nobody fears the Invid, and it's all thanks to one man, Colonel Jonathon Wolfe. Wolfe is one of Scott's childhood heroes, whom he thought was dead. Well it might have been better that way, because it turns out that Colonel Wolfe is a traitor, selling dead soldiers for protoculture cells. Fortunately, he learns his lesson in the end, and dies protecting Scott, Rook, and Rand from the Invid. We get our first glimpse of an Invid hive in this episode.
Most Memorable Line:
After stopping to set up camp for the night, Scott, Rand, and Annie fall into a mysterious pit. The Invid have been using these pits for genetic experimentation. After Annie almost gets eaten by a cannibalistic crocodile, she decides to start playing with a dinosaur egg. Not always the shiniest penny in the roll, that girl. I guess the only thing left for her is to become possessed by the Invid Regis. Boy, Rand sure knows a lot about Earth's prehistory. He must have done an awful lot of book learnin'.
Most Memorable Line:
Scott is looking forward to meeting up with an army at Point K. Finding that they have all been destroyed sends Scott into a depression. Lunk and Lancer scavenge some Alpha Fighters and even find a Beta Fighter. Meanwhile, Rook and Rand head off and find the Invid Simulagent Ariel. They bring her back to the rest of the group where Scott is inspired back into action, after he is struck by Ariel’s resemblance to his late fiance, Marlene.
Most Memorable Line:
Scott and his friends are stuck on one side of the mountain, and the only way through is to buy a map for the secret route to paradise. Hmmm, sounds fishy to me. Lancer runs into his old friend Carla while planning a concert and much of his history is explained. Annie finds a new boyfriend, and decides to travel with him across the mountains. Unfortunately, the map they bought from Carla's fiancé is a fake and they are all in danger.
Most Memorable Line:
The Robotech Defenders need to destroy an Invid stronghold in order to progress towards Reflex Point. Rand has the genius idea of hand carving some skis and infiltrating the fortress by alpine invasion. Rand and Annie find the protoculture sensor in the form of a giant brain and proceed to blow it up. It's too bad about all that protoplasmic goo. Most Memorable Lines: Rand: “Well little Mint, I'm afraid I cut the skis for a certain person who's a little older and taller than you. In particular someone with blue eyes and long blond hair and a team spirit that we all admire.” Rook: “Well you can count me out okay? I'd have to be crazy to go off into the woods with you.” The team is caught up in a sand storm and tempers are short. Rand ventures out to find some water and ends up having a protoculture induced hallucination. He seems to be taking a break from his infatuation with Rook as he is dreaming about Marlene. Hmmm? I wonder what Freud would think? And how about those Viking outfits? Makes me feel proud to be Norwegian.
Most Memorable Line:
Scott decides to build a giant raft to float all of their stuff down the river. Well at least they don't decide to send him up the river. Not too long after the raft building starts, the team is attacked by the locals who have developed a strange religion based around a large river dam. Meanwhile, Lancer has been captured by a young boy who has mistaken him for a woman. Go figure. Anyhow, the kid ends up deciding that Annie would make just as good of a wife, hence, Annie's Wedding.
Most Memorable Line:
With Annie gone, the team seems to have lost their cohesiveness. After an Invid attack, everyone heads down into an old subway system and, after being trapped, they really start to lose their cools. Rand comes up with another fantastic escape plan and it seems like the day is saved, especially when Annie shows up waiting for them outside having left her jungle paradise behind. Unfortunately, Rook and Rand have decided to leave the group, for a little while anyway. They show a map near the beginning of this episode, so if you didn’t know already, they’re in South America.
Most Memorable Line:
Corg and Sera are undergoing biomass reconstruction into human form as this episode opens. Meanwhile, the team is raiding an old military base for a ship to cross the gulf. After an Invid attack and an injury to Rook, they all take a break at an old resort. This is where Scott makes that sorry excuse about not being able to swim so he doesn't have to go into the water (see episode 64). He really commits to it, too. You know, Scott is probably my favorite character in all of Robotech, but come on, stop being such a stick in the mud. This is also the episode where Lancer falls in love with the Invid princess Sera. I guess Scott's not the only one who's unlucky in love. And Rand knows how to surf! How cool is that?
Most Memorable Line:
The Midnight Sun? Doesn't that usually refer to the Arctic circle, where there is actually sun at midnight? Anyhow, the team is crossing some snowy mountains, when the Invid attack and they all get separated. Rand, Rook, and Annie take on an Invid Trooper with two blasters and a pile of snowballs. They win, of course. How could they not with all of Rand's makeshift booby-traps? Marlene gets a good look at her sister Sera and begins to realize who she is.
Most Memorable Line:
The team runs into a bunch of townsfolk who try to arrest them. Meanwhile, some old coots are trying to take advantage of the situation by stealing their cyclones. Fortunately, Lancer and Marlene have been taken to the old coot's trading post for stolen merchandise. Scott and Rand show up on horseback (huh?). Then, with the team mostly reunited, and some help from the newly re-inspired old coots, it's time for an all-out attack against the Invid.

Runner-Up Line:
It's Annie's birthday, and she won't let anyone forget it. Of course there is an Invid hive impeding their progress, but that won't stop Scott and his crew from throwing Annie the best surprise birthday party she's ever had. Mr. Widget is a cool name for a cat.
Most Memorable Line:
The mysterious Dusty Ayers is hunting soldiers, but it's not clear why. Rook becomes entangled in the struggle, and difficult decisions need to be made.
Most Memorable Line:
The team is searching for protoculture energy cells in New York City. Lancer has a serious case of nostalgia concerning Carnegie Hall.
Most Memorable Line:
Another invasion from the REF has taken place and the freedom fighters investigate the aftermath. There, they run into Sue Graham, Intelligence Officer from Jupiter Division. I don't think she's going to win any congeniality awards, but she's getting the battle footage she's looking for. The jig is finally up for Marlene, when she bleeds green. The Shadow Fighters are pretty cool.
Most Memorable Line:
The REF fleet has returned to Earth, and they are preparing for the final invasion. Scott, Lancer and Lunk are joining up with the regular military forces, while Rook, Rand, and Annie are going their separate ways. Well, maybe not. Meanwhile, Marlene brings the old team together for some face to face negotiations with the Invid Regis. Sera joins in, and even Corg gets in on the game.
Most Memorable Line:
Well this is it, the last episode of Robotech. Scott is shot down by Corg, can you believe it? It's a good thing he's still got his Beta because before long, Rook and Rand need some serious help and Scott gets to serve up some serious payback. The Regis decides to leave the Earth with all of the Invid in tow. Unfortunately, she needs a little time to make preparations. Sera and Lancer head out to buy her that time, and she departs. Scott decides to head out and search for Admiral Hunter. Lunk wants to be a farmer. Lancer unmasks himself at Yellow Dancer's final concert where Sera comes to meet him. Rook and Rand ride off together on their cyclones, perhaps to write their memoirs? Annie and Marlene stay with Lunk and Scott flies off into space.
